In 2001, BCI completed a site assessment and initial abatement activities to address the release of “free product” unleaded gasoline into the environment. Due to the initial emergency nature of this work, interaction with federal, state, and local units of government in response to the product release was essential.
BCI addressed impacts to third parties by coordinating the repair of infrastructure, conducting emergency air monitoring, and assessing off-site conditions. Following completion of emergency response actions, BCI prepared and implemented a corrective action plan and feasibility study of remedial options.
Final system design and a long-term monitoring plan were submitted and approved by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MDNRE). BCI completed the installation of a dual-phase soil vapor extraction system to address free product, soil, and groundwater contamination. BCI completed approximately two years of system operation and monitoring activities.
