Ten Mile Creek Reservoir is a critical component of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program (CERP). The purpose of the reservoir and associated Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) is to restore historic flows and water quality to Ten Mile Creek, which flows into the St. Lucie Estuary. This project will help to reduce damaging freshwater discharges to the estuary and enhance the ability to maintain appropriate salinity in the estuary.
The Ten Mile Creek embankment is classified as a high hazard dam due to the proximity of important life support structures immediately downstream and the potential for loss of life in the event of a failure.
BCI’s work included field inspections and investigation, computer modeling, and inventory of site features for dam safety and reliability. Dam features specifically addressed included, but were not limited to: embankment materials, condition of soil cement slope protection, inlet and outlet structures, embankment instrumentation and emergency spillway sizing. The final work product was a summary report of the existing site conditions containing recommendations for rehabilitation and a qualitative statistical evaluation of the dam’s potential risks for failure.
