Scope
The Governor’s Office awarded DeSoto County a $2 million grant from the Economic Development Transportation Trust Fund. These funds were to be used to design and construct road improvements in and around the location for the new Wal-Mart South Florida Regional Distribution Center. One of these improvements provided an enhanced roadway for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center with approximately 10,000 LF of roadway designed for 480 truck arrivals per day and included adding a southbound left turn lane to state Route 17 at the intersection of the new county road.
BCI was contracted to prepare construction plans for the improvements. Elements of the work included topographic survey, right-of-way control mapping, traffic study, roadway plans, drainage plans, signing and pavement marking plans, signalization plans, utility accommodation, drainage design, permitting and bidding phase services.
In addition, BCI’s geotechnical group provided site reconnaissance, utility locates, field exploration and laboratory testing, soil survey and pavement design report preparation and submittal.
Permit applications and supporting data submittals were made to the appropriate local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
