Integrated Surface and Groundwater Model of Phosphate Mine

Scope

GIS and integrated surface and groundwater models were used to model part of a 15,000-acre phosphate mine.

Associates mapped data with parameters used in the Integrated Surface and Groundwater Model (ISGW), the FIPR hydrologic model, and SWMM.

BCI developed Avenue Extensions in ArcView that setup the hydrologic models used in investigation.

Fortran programs were written and used to place the parameter data in specific formats required for the model simulations.

The results of modeling were used to characterize long-term wetland function and to demonstrate to regulatory agencies the potential impact to wetlands resulting from mining.
