Scope
In June 2005, BCI was retained by Hygeia Health & Safety Services, Inc. to conduct a Phase I Environmental Assessment (ESA) of the Purada Processing, LLC property in Lakeland, Florida. The site is located in an industrial area and is operated as a facility for the manufacture of biodiesel fuel and associated by-products.
The assessment was completed with applicable ASTM Standards and included a detailed inspection of the property and adjacent facilities; interviews with persons knowledgeable of the property; analysis of site operations with respect to handling of hazardous materials; review of historical information and past site operations; an electronic database search of stage and federal environmental records; and review of local regulatory records.
The assessment was particularly complex as it involved evaluation of a large-scale refining operation processing large quantities of regulated chemicals, which was located in an industrial area with a history of releases to soil and groundwater.
